Professional Dog Walking based in Stockport

Dog Walking

I offer Dog Walking for owners who may be out at work all day , busy , someone elderly that would like companionship but needs help with walking or if you just feel like going out all day for relaxation without the dog !

At Aussie Dog Care I promote myself in being a friendly , reliable and professional dog walker. I will always try to walk your dog in an area that they  know and is suitable for the dog

We aim to give the right amount exercise desired by the breed making sure your dog is happy and tired when you come back home . At Aussie Dog Care we also tailor all walks to what you as an owner desire for you dogs.

On an ordinary Aussie Dog Care walk we will collect your dog from your home at a time you have given and walk for the specific time you have asked for perhaps longer. If your dog is wet or muddy I will dry all dogs as no muddy paw prints are left on the floor!

Aussie Dog Care as a business promotes itself in being a small family run business that walks local around Romiley. Dogs are never walked in a pack as I totally disagree with this method of walking.

Keeping Pets Safe This Christmas!

Here are some useful points for keeping your pets safe during this christmas:

“Trees and plants

  • Real Christmas trees are mildly toxic to some animals and the oils can be an irritant so artificial trees could be the best choice. Be aware these can still harm your pets if they like to chew, though.  Consider buying a smaller tree and raising it off the floor.
  • We all think about trees and decorations being spikey for children but they can be a hazard for pets too. Needles may get stuck in claws and throats and decorations may be very tempting to chew and then shatter, causing more hazards.
  • Cords and lights may cause a chewing and tangling hazard for pets.
  • Always make sure you shut your pets away from trees (artificial and real) and decorations whilst you are out of the house.
  • Mistletoe and Holly are both poisonous and should be kept out of the way of all pets (and children!)

Food

  • Lots of ‘human’ food is very bad for pets so never be tempted to share your Christmas dinner with them. Treat your pets by giving them pet specific treats and maybe a new toy.
  • Never feed your pets poultry carcasses as the bones may split once swallowed.
  • Keep your pets away from things we would consider treats – chocolate and grapes (and also raisins and sultanas) can be poisonous as can onions and garlic. They will be more than happy with their own treats.

Presents

  • Pets do not make good Christmas presents so please don’t be tempted. It is a disruptive time of the year with noise and people and if you have issues it can be difficult to get a vet’s help. If your child is very keen for a pet then get them a book on caring for it for Christmas and then think about getting one once all the decorations are put away for the year.
  • It can be fun to give your pet presents and a stocking for Christmas, but do make sure you buy them from a pet shop/vets and that your toy or treat is designed specifically for your pet.

Noise and disruption

  • Think about visitors – cats and dogs can get very upset with lots of people coming in and out of the house.  Make sure they have a quiet area where they can get peace and quiet and be surrounded by familiar things. Make sure they have access to water.
  • Fireworks at New Year can be very upsetting for cats and dogs. Make sure you walk dogs early in the day and shut cats in for the night. You can purchase special suits for your dog to wear and playing music can help sooth your pets.” quoted from http://www.netmums.com/lifestyle/pets/

Winter Weather Tips For Dogs

At Aussie Dog Care we take pride into looking after every individual pet that comes into our care! With the prospects of snow around the corner here are some top tips for dogs in this cold weather!

Previous Winter Walks.
Previous Winter Walks.

“At the coldest times of year, there are many precautions that can be taken to keep dogs safe and well despite heavy rain, snow and ice. Our Veterinary Director, Paula Boyden, suggests the following:

  • Let your dog’s winter coat grow, and if you have a puppy, short-haired or old dog it is a good idea to buy him a sensible coat to keep out the chill.
  • After walking your dog or if he has been out in the rain, make sure he iscompletely dried so that he does not catch a cold. Consider using our Paw Protection Cream and Snout Balm to prevent and soothe cracked pads and snouts.
  • Keep your dog on a lead if it is snowing very heavily. Snow can be disorienting and can affect a dog’s sense of smell so he could become lost easily.
  • Make sure your dog is microchipped and wearing an ID tag in case he does get lost.
  • Grit used to melt snow can cut their paws and make sure you wipe your dog’s legs, feet and stomach when you come indoors after a snowy walk. Washing and wiping your dog’s feet after walks will also prevent stray lumps of ice getting painfully trapped in their paws.
  • Antifreeze is highly poisonous but tasty to dogs! Keep it well out of their reach.
  • Never leave your dog in a car during extreme weather, hot or cold.
  • Do not let your dog walk on frozen ponds – the ice may not be thick enough to take his weight.
  • If your dog does fall through the ice never be tempted to go after them but encourage them to swim back to you.”
