Buxton Derbyshire

At Aussie Dog Care we know that Buxton is a great place to visit before and after a dog walk , even during a dog walk , I truly love Buxton with all the beautiful views of the High Peak and the Peak District only a few mintues drive away. Buxton has many beautiful shops , resturants and even a pet shop!

Buxton Festival is also great festival to go to ! It is on next year the 11- 27th July 2014.

A bit about Buxton :

“Buxton is a spa town in Derbyshire, England. It has the highest elevation of any market town in England.[1][2] Located close to the county boundary with Cheshire to the west and Staffordshire to the south, Buxton is described as “the gateway to the Peak District National Park“.[1] A municipal borough until 1974, Buxton was then merged with other localities including Glossop, lying primarily to the north, to form the local government district and borough of High Peak within the county of Derbyshire. Buxton is within the sphere of influence of Greater Manchester due to its close proximity to the area.

Buxton is home to Poole’s Cavern, an extensive limestone cavern open to the public, and St Ann’s Well, fed by the geothermal spring bottled and sold internationally by Buxton Mineral Water Company. Also in the town is the Buxton Opera House, which hosts several music and theatre festivals each year. The Devonshire Campus of theUniversity of Derby is housed in one of the town’s historic buildings.”  Quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buxton

Things to do :

“Whatever the weather, the town offers something for everyone. From the Pavilion Gardensand Opera House, the Dome and Poole’s Cavern and the country park, to the shops in four distinct shopping areas, you will find somewhere to eat, drink, swim, ride a ‘Victorian tram’or a miniature train, watch plays, listen to music, and even Go Ape!
Not only that, but situated in the centre of the Peak District, you are never far from a stunning attraction or wonderful walking. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Castleton Caverns, Lyme Park, Crich Tramway Museum, Carsington Water, the Roaches, the Monsal Trail or even Alton Towers are a short distance from Buxton. And more and more people are discovering that the bus can take them to where they want to go!” Quoted from http://www.visitbuxton.co.uk/

Protecting Your Dog Against Fleas and Ticks

At Aussie Dog Care we know the difficulties of removing Fleas and Ticks so hopefully this information will help protect your dogs against Fleas and Ticks!

Flea and Ticks are normally around during warmer summer months however the odd few do seem to reappear from time to time as we know!

Below Text Quoted from http://www.cesarsway.com/

“Ticks survive the winter in microclimates, and after the thaw a feeding and breeding female tick can lay hundreds to thousands of eggs at one time2. Fleas can survive freezing temperatures on wild or feral animals, cocooned as immature pupae, or inside houses and buildings3. With temperatures in the 50s, 60’s, and even 70s, an early spring also means an early season for these bloodsucking parasites.

It’s practically impossible to keep fleas and ticks completely at bay. But there are some steps you can take to try and minimize the opportunities for contact with your pet.

Fleas.Wildlife, including opossums, coyotes, raccoons, and skunks, and even untreated cats and dogs can deposit flea eggs into a yard. It may be possible to reduce flea infestations by limiting the access these animals have around your house and yard. Your local nursery or garden professional may have some advice on what to plant or other strategies to discourage animal trespassers.

Ticks It can be helpful for pet owners to alter the landscape around their homes to make it unsuitable for ticks and their hosts. For example, keep the lawn mowed, remove leaf litter accumulations and prune shrubs and trees.4

Contact a professional pest specialist if you have any questions regarding environmental treatments for ticks.

Use a Flea and Tick Control Product

Despite your efforts to reduce the fleas and ticks in your yards, our pets may still be exposed to these parasites, so you should take measures to help protect them. Treat all dogs and cats in the household with a flea and tick control product. One untreated pet can lead to a flea infestation in the household.

FRONTLINE® brand products can help protect your dog from unexpected flea and tick sources by killing adult fleas, eggs and larvae, and all stages of ticks. FRONTLINE Plus not only stops existing flea infestations, but also prevents the establishment of new infestations.

Consistency is key. Even one missed dose of your monthly flea and tick control can set the stage for a flea infestation that takes months to resolve, or put your pet at greater risk of exposure to a tick borne disease. So be sure you treat your pet now and continue monthly applications throughout the rest of the year.”

Dog Walking in Romiley and Marple

As we are now coming to an end of an extremely busy month I would like to introduce two of my  local dog walking clients.

Bauer and Bobby  meaning wonderful walks around the Middlewood way , Marple itself and the memorial park .

We love our regular trips to Marple and the pet shop!

Henry and Martha are another two lovely black labs! Who love the walks I take them on!

Aussie Dog Care is based in Romiley , backing onto the golf course! Feel so lucky to live where we do as so many people out of the area comment how amazing it is to have so many walks available on my doorstep !

We are walking distance to Werneth Low , Chadkirk , Etherow Park and Brabyns all of which we regularly go and enjoy with clients!

We would like to thank Romiley Traders for wonderful support and all locals for their continued support! I am a true believer of supporting local shops in the community ! #liveshoplocal #loveromiley

Romiley has a lot of Heritage :

“Country and Heritage

Romiley District Centre lies in the North East of the Borough on the edge of the Peak District, at a distance of approximately 4 miles from Stockport town centre. Romiley has a long history, being mentioned in the Domesday Book as Rumelie. This name is derived from the Anglo Saxon word meaning spacious woodland clearing.”
