“Country and Heritage

Romiley District Centre lies in the North East of the Borough on the edge of the Peak District, at a distance of approximately 4 miles from Stockport town centre. Romiley has a long history, being mentioned in the Domesday Book as Rumelie. This name is derived from the Anglo Saxon word meaning spacious woodland clearing.”

Pupaid

Pupaid has launched an online petition to ban puppy and kitten farming in the UK . We here at Aussie Dog Care fully support this!

Sign the petition now! http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/49528

“Pup Aid has launched an e-petition to help ban the cruel practice of puppy and kitten farming in the UK!

Founded in 2010 by TV vet Marc Abraham, we have received huge support from a nation of animal lovers including celebrities Ricky Gervais, Liam Gallagher, Brian May, Joanna Page, Meg Mathews, and Sarah Harding to name a few and now we need your help to end puppy farming!

Puppy farming is the mass commercial production of puppies purely for profit and without any thought for the health, welfare, or happiness of either the pup or breeding dogs. Kept in horrific conditions, then sent long distances cross country and sold en masse – usually poorly and riddled with painful disease – to pet shops, websites, and private dealers; these puppies often die within days of arriving in their new home.

According to a recent Dogs Trust survey, 95% of dog owners say they wouldn’t buy a dog from a puppy farm yet as many as 900,000 people may have done so without even knowing.

TV Vet Marc Abraham says:

‘Most dog owners say they’d never buy a dog from a puppy farm, yet a large number will due to common scams especially by private dealers. This is exactly why Pup Aid have launched this e-petition. We need 100,000 signatures from the nation’s animal lovers to make the Government listen and hopefully end this needless and preventable suffering for good.’

‘The Government must ban the sale of young puppies and kittens unless their mothers are present; as an absent mother is a clear compromise of both health and welfare for these animals and often a big clue indicating puppy farming.’

Pup Aid believes prospective puppy and kitten owners should always:

  • Ask “Where’s Mum?”
  • Insist on seeing the puppy/kitten and mother interacting
  • Be aware of scams e.g. fake or no mother present at all

Pup Aid aims to educate and raise awareness about the cruel trade of puppy and kitten farming helping the British public to only buy from reputable and honourable breeders e.g. Kennel Club Assured Breeders, or consider adopting a dog from a local rescue centre. Pup Aid hope their campaign and e-petition will curb the demand and supply for farmed puppies and kittens and help tackle the horrific practice of puppy and kitten farming in the UK.” Quoted from http://www.pupaid.org/puppy-farming/sign-the-e-petition-now.html

Marple Bridge with Pictures!

I have taken some photographs of Marple Bridge and quoted some information on one of Aussie Dog Cares many dog walks!

“Marple Bridge is a village within the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, in Greater Manchester, England. It lies on the River Goyt, which runs through the centre of the village, and is close to the town of Marple.

Historically a part of the civil parish of Glossop, in Derbyshire, it was included in the new parish of Ludworth and Chisworth in 1866.[1] Ludworth became a separate parish in 1896, and was abolished in 1936, when the former parish was transferred to Cheshire and amalgamated into Marple Urban District.[2] In 1974 the urban district was abolished and Marple Bridge became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in the county of Greater Manchester. It shares borders with Mellor, Marple, Compstall,New MillsStrines, Mill Brow and Chisworth. It is located in the ecclesiastical parish of Mellor and the parish church of St Thomas, Mellor stands several hundred feet higher than the village, overlooking Marple Bridge, Marple, Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Marple Bridge village centre has been designated a Conservation Area. The Conservation Area was originally established in 1974, although was extended in 2006 to incorporate Brabyns park.[3]

Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council has produced a Conservation Area Character Appraisal document, outlining the reasons that the Conservation Area has been designated as such. In justifying the reasons for designation, this document states of the town: “Marple Bridge is a predominately stone-built village situated on the banks of the River Goyt, just to the north east of Marple… Historically the location had significance as a bridging point on the route between Stockport and Derbyshire and where water power was available initially for a forge and corn mill. Marple Bridge developed from the 18th century as a small urban centre” Quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marple_Bridge

Goyt Valley

At Aussie Dog Care we love our walks around the countryside and Goyt Valley is one of them . It is a beautiful place to go on a long walks with dogs or with the whole family.
“The Goyt Valley is located between Macclesfield and Buxton in the Peak District National Park, England. The valley is close to the Cheshire and Derbyshire county border. The River Goyt that flows through the valley rises high on Axe Edge Moor near the Cat and Fiddle Public House, (the second highest public house in England) and flows north through Taxal, Whaley Bridge and New Mills before joining with the River Tame near Stockport to form the River Mersey. This website concentrates on the area known as the Upper Goyt Valley close to the source of the River Goyt.” From http://www.goytvalley.co.uk/about.htm
Three Walks below from http://www.walkthehills.co.uk/peak%20district/three-goyt-valley-walks-shining-tor-cats-tor-windgather-rocks-taxal-moor.html
“Three walks based around the Goyt Valley’s excellent western ridge, stretching from Shining Tor in the south to Taxal Moor in the north. The walks all start in the valley itself between Fernilee and Errwood Reservoirs, and begin with an ascent to Shining Tor via the Stake Side/Shooter’s Clough ridge, followed by a stroll down the main ridge from Shining Tor to Pym Chair via Cats Tor.

Route 1 then returns via Foxlow Edge to Shooter’s Clough Bridge (as per the Goyt Valley Horseshoe) – this is a short but fantastic walk and probably the best walk when time’s short or as a great introduction to the mighty and all-conquering Goyt Valley

Route 2 continues north from Pym Chair, keeping on the moorland parallel to the minor road, until Windgather Rocks. This is a popular spot for climbers and a good place for a lunch stop. The route then heads east, past Taxal Moor Road and down into the valley. After crossing Mill Clough, a farm track then takes you to Fernilee Reservoir and the return stroll along the old railway line.

Route 3 continues from Windgather Rocks along the ridge of Taxal Moor (access land – no path marked on OS map, but it’s there on the ground) and then east back down to the River Goyt. The route then heads south along the river and Fernilee Reservoir. Great walking in one of the best areas of the Peak District.” From http://www.walkthehills.co.uk/peak%20district/three-goyt-valley-walks-shining-tor-cats-tor-windgather-rocks-taxal-moor.html
